Handfasting is the marriage rite used by many neo-Pagans and Wiccans. In some cases, other people who desire a wedding theme built around their Celtic ancestry may also use this term - especially in Medieval-style weddings. The term itself comes from the custom of shaking hands over a contract. Handfasting refers to the hands being bound together with a cord as part of the ritual. Ever heard of "tying the knot" or "the ties that bind"?

In modern Pagan traditions, it may be used either in the informal betrothal sense, or may be used as a legal wedding. For some, it is a commitment to be together throughout this lifetime, for others through many lives...

Remember, you don't have to tie the knot on a Saturday. It can be any day of the week - in fact Wiccan ceremonies are normally on a Monday or Friday...

This can be a legal, binding 'marriage' - registered at Home Affairs, just like a Wedding, or you can have the 'Year and a day' ceremony - without the paperwork.

A preliminary meeting is important, where you - as a couple - come and spend an hour with me to discuss your requirements, and to see if we are compatible.

Includes limited email and telephone consultation, as well as a custom Handfasting certificate, suitable for framing. I also take care of filing of marriage documents at Home Affairs, and I issue a South African Marriage Certificate to you on the day.

Also includes pre-ceremony explanation of handfasting rituals to keep everyone happy!
